EDITORIAL: Afcon 2019 : season of the "underdogs" to rise
Afcon 2019 has seen the nations cup expanded from 16 teams to 24 teams, which resulted to having multiple debutants in this years competition.
Some debutants gave a good account of themselves, while some used the platform as a showcase to garner experience for future competitions.
Debutants such as Madagascar gave the first scare when they defeated Nigeria in the third phase of the group stages to top the group which also included Guinea and Burundi.
Last night was the start of the knock out phases, and everyone expected the big names in African football to rise up to the occasion, but as fate would have it. the "underdog" Benin Republic shocked the whole of Africa by dumping Morrocco out of the tournament via penalty shoot outs.
Should we expect more upsets or will the big guns come out with their full attilery this time around.
Later tonight Nigeria takes on Cameroun, while Egypt takes on South Africa.
who will come out tops?
